Hamlet Revisited [CLICK HERE]
|
Hamlet Revisited This course will examine Shakespeare's Hamlet and attempt to answer all of the fascinating and pertinent questions and problems that are raised by the play but not answered. How, for instance, did Hamlet's father get to be kind of Denmark? How did Claudius become king? Why was Polonius so powerful? Can we compare young Hamlet to Fortinbras? Why was it necessary to have King Hamlet's funeral, Gertrude's wedding and Claudius' coronation so quickly? Where was young Hamlet while all of this was going on? How come Horatio was present? These are just some of the fascinating questions that are let unanswered at the end of the play.
This class will be conducted as a series of lectures more like conversation in which we will dissect the play, resulting in the ultimate understanding of this, the greatest play ever written in the English language. It promises to be not only information, but enjoyable and entertaining as well. We will move at our own pace; however, if we finish early, we can examine some of Shakespeare's other plays.

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION - Beginning The World Anew [CLICK HERE]
|
THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION - Beginning The World Anew In 1776 thirteen disparate colonies decided to defy the greatest empire in the world. The colonists had no army or navy. Fully one third of the colonists were opposed to independence and one third were indifferent. George Washington fought ten battles with the British and lost seven of them. After 1778 it was no longer just a revolution. It was now a world war as France, Spain and Holland declared war on Britain and the war was fought from the West Indies to India. England itself was in as much danger of invasion as in the year of the Spanish Armada. (Primarily lecture with some class discussion).

Three Ordinary Women A tribute to three extraordinary women: Ruth, Naomi, and Esther. In this course, we will shed a limelight on the immeasurable strength of three women.
